FRIDAY 16th of APRIL the 39.6m tall statue of Jesus the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro had been "vandalised" after access to the area of mountain Corcovado was cut off due to raging rains. The act was characterised by the mayor of Rio as "a crime against the nation". On the head of Jesus there was a taunting phrase : "WHEN THE CAT'S AWAY THE MICE WILL PLAY".
